Summary
Hidden on an insignificant planet in the Omicron system, disgraced Doctor Noonian Soong creates the universe's first functional positronic brain. More importantly, he creates Lore, who wants nothing more than to be as human as his creator.
Isolated from his peers and with only his android son for company, Soong makes mistakes as any new parent does. It's when these mistakes start to accumulate that things become unsafe. For them both.

Lore isn't thrilled about his new little brother, who he considers no more than a clumsy nuisance. Data has no emotions, is still under construction, and takes up most of their father's attention.

They hadn’t agreed anything beforehand. The only information Hobson gave was the setting, and even then, only a vague idea. All that mattered was their outfits matched the scenery. Leather, plaid, denim. 1950s Americana. Something as far from their real lives as possible. Data had fulfilled his part of the deal in spades.
Or: Data and Christopher Hobson indulge in some 1950s-style Holodeck fun.
