Formerly titled "No Rhymes."
Freshman year was shit for Catra. She didn't have any friends, her old dorm sucked, and her lab partner treated her like trash. She tried to do better over the summer, but she still feels like she's an inch from falling apart, and she can't get over the girl she fell in love with who doesn't even notice her any more.
Adora hopes that this year, things go her way. She's still dealing with the aftermaths of an accident that left her partially disabled, she can't pursue her dreams of being an athlete any more, and she's terrified that the horrible girl from physics will still be around this year. Also, her best friend keeps forcing her to go on horrific dates with random guys from Tinder. Ugh.
The brightest spot in both of their lives is the relationship they have with each other online, even though they don't know each others names. When the two of them end up as housemates in the on-campus apartments, things change irrevocably for everyone involved. It gets even worse when they discover how much they hate each other and how they have almost every class together this semester.

Summary
Adora, anxious to get a fresh start after the death of her parents and twin brother in a car accident, moves to the small town of Bright Moon. She’s far from happy about it and just wants to forget about her ongoing complications from the accident, graduate, and get out again.
Catra is just as desperate to get out of Bright Moon herself. Stuck in a house with an emotionally abusive mother and keeping a lot of secrets, Catra knows that the only way she’ll ever feel okay is if she gets the hell out. After a string of awkward encounters, both are perfectly fine with keeping a mutual avoidance policy in place.
But then the first body is found, and Catra and Adora are thrown together in grizzly circumstances where one thing is certain.
Nothing will ever be the same again.

The bell above the door chimed sweetly, immediately drowned out by a shrill “HEEHEEHEEHEE!” from an electronic witch's voice box Razz had installed by the entrance.
“Oooh, that's new!”
Catra froze. Runner Girl was early today. Catra let the ball of wire lights tumble from her hands and got to her feet, slowly walking to the edge of the aisle to get a clear look at the coffee bar.
“It’s festive, dearie!” Razz called from the front register.
“It’s gonna drive me to homicide before my shift ends,” Mermista droned from the counter.
Catra exhaled slowly and shook her hands out. Today was going to be the day. She'd promised herself that much on Tuesday. She could hide in the shadows of these bookshelves forever, stealing glances at the girl of her dreams, or she could finally step into the light and say something. Anything.
