“Grian, I—” Scar faltered, catching himself. What was he thinking? He couldn’t say that. It could ruin everything. Their friendship was too important to risk, and what were the odds Grian felt the same way? Practically zero. No, definitely zero.
“Yes, Scar?” Grian turned to him, his eyes warm with curiosity.
Scar froze for a second, searching for an escape. “Thanks,” he finally said.
Grian’s laugh was soft, calm, and unexpectedly endearing. “Thanks for what?” he asked, tilting his head.
“Just... thanks,” Scar replied with a small smile.

“Hey,” Grian offered gently, his voice breaking the silence.
“All this time,” Joel said, his voice low and strained, carrying an exhaustion Grian hadn’t heard before.
Grian swallowed and stepped closer, moving slowly to stand beside him. “Yeah.”
Joel turned his head toward Grian, his fists clenching at his sides. “Why didn’t anyone tell me?” His voice cracked, anger and confusion laced into his words. “Or anyone else, for that matter? Who knows? Does Lizzie know? Jimmy?” He looked away again, his jaw tightening.
“Neither of them know,” Grian said softly. “It’s not like we could just tell you. What were we supposed to say? ‘Oh hey, did you know we’ve been forced to fight in a bunch of games to the death? It was absolute hell and torture for us, but don’t worry, you won’t remember a thing unless you’re actually in the game.’” He let out a short, dry chuckle. “Yeah, not exactly an easy conversation to have.”

As if they were still escaping the afternoon heat by swimming in the lake. As if they were still lying in a meadow of tall grass, surrounded by flowers of every color.
Scott blinked at him, stunned by his words. Then his expression softened, and he said simply, “Because I love you.”
Jimmy felt his heart stop as Scott continued, his voice warm and unguarded. “I love you a lot. And you’re my best friend.”

Scar pulled up his chat history with Grian one final time. Each of his messages were still lacking replies. Each still completely unread.
"No." Scar said sternly. "I'm coming with you."
Pearl seemed surprised by his reply, but she made no objection.
"Xisuma?" Scar said, holding the comm up to his ear once again.
"Scar, what is going on? Why are you and Pearl still there?"
Scar didn't answer his question, he only kept talking. "Cub owes me a favor. Tell him to take care of Jellie while I'm gone."
Before X could say anything back, Scar had hung up. He looked back up at Pearl, a strong feeling of determination settling in his bones.
"I'm not jumping to Season 10 yet. Not unless it's with Grian."
Pearl nodded, understanding him perfectly. "Then let’s go find him."

Or, Scar wakes up the morning after Secret Life ends to find that Grian is missing. On top of that, despite being the winner, his memories of all the past games haven’t returned to him. Him and the other previous winners of the traffic games suspect something is up, so they all hatch a plan to get Grian back and end the cycle of death games once and for all.
