Summary
Shinsou is five years old when he is taught about soulmates. His mother pulls him to the side on one of her lucid days, tracing a distinct bruise on his wrist that had come out of nowhere. “It’s their pain,” she says, rubbing the mark lovingly. “It’s meant to connect you for life, you know. When they die, you die.”
“I don’t want to die,” Shinsou objects, but his mother grips his wrist tightly, eyes distant.
“It’s meant to connect you for life,” she repeats.
A few days later she burns the house down and with it herself, and Shinsou ends up in foster care.
In a world where soulmates are connected by pain, Shinsou Hitoshi wakes up every day with another bruise, and knows that his time is running out.
(“Kaminari Denki! He’s really rich. Kind of an asshole if you ask me. He’s a huge player and a big partier, always out of class more than in it. Arrogant, I think?”
Shinsou hums in reply. Kaminari Denki, player, rich boy, arrogant asshole who squanders his education in favor of partying.
He scoffs.
