Summary
Jonathan Kent woke up one morning with a grim, horrifying mark etched on his shoulder: his soulmate had passed away. The experience left him shattered and broken. And then the unexpected happened. The mark on his shoulder shifted from ‘death’ to ‘rebirth’, convincing Jonathan that by miracle, his soulmate had come back to life.
When he finally met Damian Wayne for the first time, Jonathan swore in his heart to protect him, both as Superboy and himself, so the world could never again take Damian away from him.
------
Or, a Soulmate AU where the young hero Superboy swore to protect the civilian Damian Wayne, both not knowing about each other’s secret identity.

Summary
Damian found himself once more standing in the stillness of Wayne manor. His phone was equally still, just as silent, entirely bereft of activity. He contemplates it, contemplates just walking out the house without it, contemplates calling for Jon and asking Superboy to take him out of this city.
Then he realises he is being dramatic, because it is fine, and he is fine.
…
Sometimes casual cruelty hurts worse than any other kind. Damian learns this the hard way. He is not fine.

Summary
When Damian tried for the first time, he went too far and saw Gotham as the new hell on earth.
When he tried for a second time, he went too early and saw everybody fighting for a cowl.
That, at least, he could work with.
Alternatively: Instead of entering the Lazarus Tournament, Damian tries to bring back Alfred with time travel... it backfires of course, so now he has to relive his past as Dick's Robin. All things considered, it could've been so much worse.

Summary
Damian Wayne is familiar with being the target of one's apathy, he is friends with despondency and longing. He is aware that people move through life by prioritizing what is most important to them, directing their time and energy into what is most beloved, after all, he often does the same. But Damian also knows he needs to accept that he will never be anyone's priority. A task he is quickly finding is easier said than done, because it is love and acceptance that is the most foreign to him.
~
“Damian was rather well aware that he was hard to love. He wasn’t made to be loved, he had been created with the intent to be used. He had been constructed piece by piece, designed to fulfill missions, to serve a purpose. If he was seen ill-fit, then there was no justification for his existence.”
