That day haunted him.
Even now, it still haunted him every single day. It had only been 6 months since Asriel disappeared, and 4 since Dess went to college, but it felt like so, so much longer than that. The day this parasite took over, and the day Asriel disappeared forever. Dess changed ever since that day, going from a sweet, honest, and hard working teenage girl to a disobedient shut-in. Even as an outsider, he saw the changes, and this parasite did too - it’s why he knew so much, because he was forced to ceaselessly prod at her. He wouldn’t be surprised if she hated him for it.
And now Dess was gone. She went to college, a dream she had for a while, but Berdly had a feeling she just wanted to get away from everything.
Maybe if he never accepted that bet, none of this would’ve happened. If only he let go of his persona for once, maybe then he wouldn’t be in this situation. Maybe if he just admitted to Dess he truly was a coward, then the three of them wouldn’t have gone into the bunker.
..Maybe this was all his fault.
