Summary
Winter was cold no matter where they went.
It made sense, it was the coldest season of the year after all. Each kingdom was affected slightly differently, but at its core the same. Cloudy skies, frigid wind, and worst of all snow. Even if the others would easily argue that statement, Varian couldn't help but shrink away as the land became blanketed in white. Too many memories, none good.

“Wings!” Yong throws up his hands, the campfire glinting off that look in his eye. It’s one that’s particularly manic, the one he always gets whenever Hugo waves something shiny in his face or he discovers a new way to explode a firecracker. “How long have you had wings, Varian?”“Nineteen years.” Varian cringes every so often when his wings twitch—it’s almost like they’re trying to refurl, but they can’t for some reason. Maybe they're cramped from constantly being under his shirt. “Look, they’re pretty common in Corona. I really don’t want to make a big deal about it.”
“And telling me don’t freak out before you vault us off of a cliff is a surefire way to make me freak the fuck out.” Hugo matches Varian’s next glare with a sneer.

He yanked Hugo back into his chest, upsetting his balance too much to mount an effective counterattack.
Had he really let the one guy get the drop on him? Don would kill him if she found out. Though, when the bandit brought his sword under Hugo’s chin, Hugo worried he might beat her to it.
Varian stopped in his tracks, just far enough away that he couldn’t help. Great. Perfect.
“Stay where you are, kid, or I’ll slit your little friend’s throat.”
