Alex makes a series of phone calls and bad choices that lead him directly here — an Airstream on the edge of a junkyard with a distractingly attractive mechanic showing him how the dining table converts into a bed that he can sleep on for just $75 a week.
It is, of course, completely absurd.
But there’s something cozy about the fuzzy yellow blanket on the bed/table and the sparkling sunlight streaming through the mostly-clean windows, in the smell of leather and motor oil and aftershave and summer storms, in the hopeful half-smile on Michael’s face.
That’s his name — Michael. Alex’s potential new roommate and landlord.
He takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly, his vision blurring as he shakes his head at himself. He knows now that he has undoubtedly lost whatever shred of sanity he’d managed to hold onto through the war, because the next thing he says is—
“Yeah, okay. I’ll take it.”

“My head is exploding. I'm not even sure what to believe in some of these files.” Michael shut the one he'd been looking at.
Alex wasn't sure whether to be impressed or amused by how clean he'd kept his work station at the table - returning the files to their proper drawers before pulling out more. Complaining when he found one out of alphabetical order, and about the lack of proper reference numbers and color coding. It was strangely adorable.
Michael stretched over the back of the chair with a groan, and Alex found his eyes drawn to him. Shirt riding up to show the flat planes of his stomach, head arched to show off the vulnerable curve of his throat.

An accident with the pods leaves Alex temporarily deaged to his 17 year old self, pre-prom, and said 17 year old is not best pleased with how his future has turned out. Heavy emphasis on Alex and Maria fixing their friendship as well as figuring out what to do about the Michael-shaped elephant in the room.
