    Summary

Life at Grover Cleveland Middle School had settled into a steady rhythm. As the eighth-grade math teacher, you had become fast friends with your classroom neighbor, Ryland Grace. His explosive experiments frequently rattled the shared overhead vents, and you willingly surrendered most of the storage closet to his overflowing supplies; his enthusiastic voice had become your daily routine.

That was, until a few weeks ago. Recently, the bubbly biologist had dimmed, fraying around the edges as if someone had taken his penciled-in essence and smudged an eraser over it. He was skipping staff meetings, hiding classified government folders, and slipping away into a reckless equation you were unequipped to solve.

Driven by logic, comradery, and an ever-growing knot of concern for your beloved colleague, you begin a weeks-long investigation into his disappearances and strange behaviors. But tracking a living variable is a dangerous game—and solving the mystery of Ryland Grace will inadvertently land you a one-way ticket to a suicide mission twelve light-years from Earth.

    Summary

Ryland Grace is never still. During his classes, he always had something in his hands to fidget with. In seminars and meetings, he had a bad habit of chewing on the caps of his pens. He probably couldn't even sit at home in front of the TV without doing something with his hands. Being on the mission has apparently only made that habit much worse.
