“No way this Akechi dude is real,” Ryuji ever so slowly says, making wild gestures towards the same three photos Ren’s been sliding through for the tenth time in the span of only a few seconds.
“Block him immediately. That’s the most obvious catfishing I have ever seen. Also, what the hell is a COO supposed to be?”
Ren doesn’t know either. A quick internet research spits out the answer.
“Chief Operating Officer,” he reads out aloud. “Sounds…” Professional, expensive, hot, “...fancy.”
“Anything with three capital letters sounds fancy,” Ryuji grumbles.

Summary
“I hope this is okay,” Goro says, fiddling with the cuffs of the shirt. It's nothing special; it’s white and plain, the sort of button down that every twenty-year-old guy has stuffed in the back of his closet. The light fabric hangs awkwardly on Goro’s slim shoulders—and, for whatever reason, he has it buttoned all the way up to the top.
The shirt doesn't look bad, but it looks like it belongs to another man. Akira takes a moment to swallow those implications lest he choke on them.
It's impossible not to fall in love with Goro Akechi, he thinks again, sheepish.
(Or: Goro borrows a shirt—then a hoodie. Then another shirt. Then... things spiral out of control.)

Smirking, Akira sits up and brings his free hand to hover over Akechi’s hip, just barely skimming the hem of his dark blazer. “As much as you want, Akechi-san.”
“And why—” Akechi’s bangs shadow his eyes as he looks down at Akira, “—do you think I want to get to know you at all?”
Akira tips his head back, meeting Akechi’s gaze steadily. “Why else would you invite me here after hours? All alone?”

When he came upstairs to find Goro examining the “thank you” present Kawakami had sent him, his first reaction was embarrassment, but at Goro’s intrigued head tilt, he shrugged.
A gift, he said. Mostly a joke, I think.
Goro hummed, rifling thoughtfully through the layers of fabric. It looks like it might be my size.
An interested heat flickered to life in Akira’s gut. Wanna try it on?
I have the day off tomorrow. Echoing heat glimmered behind Goro’s eyes. Maybe I’ll think about it.
Akira swallowed.

On paper, their fates are destined to oppose each other... but Akira has no intention of betraying his team OR of abandoning Akechi. When you come to love so many people, you grow compelled to fight for them, despite all odds.
A look at the events of the game if only Akira had reached out to Akechi, just a bit more, in spite of the Phantom Thieves.

Every encounter Akira has with Akechi feels unnaturally calculated, like Akechi has him bound in an intricate dance to which he doesn’t know the steps. Akira is good at improvising, though, and if Akechi wants to keep an eye on Akira, well… two can play at that game.
There’s a danger, though, in spending too much time watching someone.
