He anticipates George, hears ‘why did you say it like that?’ so clearly it’s almost like he just said it aloud.
The sentence never comes. Instead George shifts, the feeling and sound of him coming from even closer, and his knees bump into Dream’s and stay there.

Summary
This is what they do. They speak in jokes and memes and let their true thoughts bleed through into the cracks that only they can read. Like sand in dusty corners, hidden but intrusive. George knows the space between Dream's words, the things he doesn't say. He can hear the change in pitch from hours and hours of practice. He's had days of calls, nights of Dream's voice floating to him across an ocean and through a speaker until George has become fluent in a language that doesn't have a name.
When George gets to Florida, he has a hard time adjusting to all the touching.

“Yeah, it’s hot.” Dream removes his hand.
“What?” George is embarrassed by how breathy he sounds.
“Your skin, it’s hot where he slapped you. That’s how you know it was hard. Your ear’s all red, too.”
George touches his ear. His cheekbone and jaw are beginning to throb dully, just a low ache that’s synced with his heartbeat. “Oh. Does it look stupid?”
“No, it’s cute.” Dream swallows. “I mean it’s– well– it just looks like you’ve been out in the cold, kind of.”
George doesn’t know what to do with that.
Sapnap slaps George at TwitchCon. Later, George finds himself in Dream’s hotel room, hopelessly in love.

Summary
Eager arms fly around broad shoulders, and Dream’s isn’t really sure who’s pulling who down. George’s head lands gingerly on the seat, Dream’s above it, and he decides it doesn’t really matter. Gentle but hungry hands ghost under the hem of Dream’s T-shirt before George pulls back again, all swollen lips and tousled hair, to meet green eyes.
“Only if you want to,” he whispers against Dream’s lips.
