The Jones family loves to have their movie nights, especially when it comes to Hitchcock films. So why hasn't Ianto seen Rope yet? For better or for worse, he's determined to find out.
There aren't really any spoilers for the movie Rope here, just kind of a basic plot summary and a few quotes. If you haven't seen the film, I highly recommend it! It's one of my favorites and it's got a great dark sense of humor. Speaking of this film being one of my favorites, file this fanfic and my "the click" fanfic under "extremely self-indulgent nonsense from a queer film nerd" lol. Despite that, I hope you enjoy it!

Maybe Dennis wasn’t ready to do this, Mac had considered. Maybe being with a guy for real was too much and too sudden. Maybe whatever he’d repressed over the last forty-something years was clawing its way back up to strangle him. Mac had firsthand experience with that. He knew what it looked like and he knew what it felt like.
Then Dennis let out a shaking breath and said, “It’s you.”
That was what Mac was afraid of.

The selection screen of the Predator DVD is playing on a loop, Mac is in the kitchen popping popcorn, the lights are down low, and Dennis is twisting the cap off of his first beer of the evening. Everything in the apartment is as it should be.
Yep, perfectly normal movie night.
Except that it’s their first once since…
Dennis runs his thumb along the edge of the bottle, gazing into it like it’s a magic 8-ball about to reveal the secret to dating your lifetime best friend. It’s got nothing to share, though, aside from the sound of the liquid sloshing inside.
He made Mac promise, though. He made him promise it would be the same as always and he wouldn’t make it all weird.
