Summary
Neil Josten, on the run and looking for a place to hide, is attempting to break into an abandoned building in Chicago's South Side. He's interrupted by Lip Gallagher, who quickly surmises Neil's predicament. After a tense initial exchange, Lip offers Neil a place to stay, not for money, but in exchange for his "utility" – a capable and quiet presence who can help with the family's various schemes without drawing unwanted attention. Despite his ingrained distrust of others, Neil, seeing no better option, reluctantly agrees to follow Lip back to the chaotic Gallagher household.
