Summary
Dunk has lived in the periphery of his own life for years. He’s worked in shipyards and stables, kitchens and fields, dreaming of a day he wasn’t sure would ever even come.
Until one day, a passing Maester tells him he’s going to die.
So Dunk does the only reasonable thing an omega with limited time can do - take his well-earned coin and waste it at a tourney he has no business being in.
He is expecting luxury - silks and furs, good food and wine, and perhaps even a chance to lose his maidenhead, should a handsome and willing alpha be so kind.

Dunk stands. He walks, he carefully, slowly walks. His feet meet soft, cold carpet and there are beads of sweat running down his brows, dropping off his chin.
Smoke. There is smoke.
But no fire. Nothing of sort.Not yet, something seems to murmur. Not yet.
Dunk comes to stand in front of the cradle. He hesitates.
Watch them. Watch and see them, ser.
Dunk follows the Targaryens to Summerhall.
And he finds more than just the metaphorical dragons.As new eyes open, it brings about a change that is both hoped and dreaded in equal measure, but more importantly, like a new verse added to the old song, it is something needed by the House of the Dragon.

Dunk has two soul marks appear on his 18th name-day: one on his left arm and one on the back of his neck. It's known that your soul brand appears where your soulbound first touches you. But, being a commoner, Dunk was never educated on what his marks truly mean. Commoners aren't expected to meet their soulbound, so why waste time educating them on the subject.
After the death of his ser, Dunk continues toward the tournament in hopes of finding glory as a knight. He finds a lot more than glory.
