“Mason’s gone,” says a voice from behind him. It is conversational and nonchalant and so, so familiar.
The scent of ash fades, but doesn’t disappear.
Damon’s heart thuds in his ears. He turns slowly.
Standing behind him, leaning on a bookshelf with his hands in his pockets is someone Damon never thought he’d see again.
Years and years of never saying Enzo’s name and now it’s caught in his throat.

Barry stayed focused on his task, cleaning and inspecting the wound, and paused only to murmur, “Thought you were a tough guy. Can’t take a little pain?”
Len wasn’t sure whether or not to be angry. He was surprised to find that he actually liked the way Barry talked to him, disrespectful and snarky. It had been a long time since anyone was this…blunt with him.
