"Happy to be of service," Hayden bowed, and Shane laughed, just as the door clicked open again behind him.
"Who is this?" A deep voice asked abruptly, in an accent that Shane dimly noticed sounded Russian.
"Our new roommate, Rozanov," Hayden rolled his eyes with a long-suffering sigh. "I literally told you about him last night."
Shane turned to see one of the most attractive men he'd ever seen in his life standing a foot away from him.
Realizing he'd been staring for a moment too long, Shane stuck out his hand. "I'm Shane Hollander."
The young man appraised him with disinterest for several seconds before saying, "Okay."
Shane dropped his hand, his face burning.
"Shane, this is Ilya Rozanov, but everyone just calls him Rozanov," Hayden exhaled. "And he is my asshole roommate of two years, going on three, and now one of your roommates.”
Rozanov smirked. “You are mad I get my own room while you share with him.”
“Oh, fuck off, Rozanov,” Hayden retorted. “Unlike you, I have friends, and one of them is Shane.”
“I have friends,” Rozanov dismissed.

Shane Hollander is just trying to survive—NYU biochemistry, hockey practice, and the graveyard shift at a Manhattan 7-Eleven. He's too tired to notice that his new regular customer is clearly Russian mafia, or that Ilya's interest in him goes beyond terrible coffee.
When Ilya gives him a $10k scarf and gloves, Shane sells them for rent money. Any normal person would be terrified. Ilya is fascinated.

Summary
The air from the ocean is different. It's lighter, softer and tinged with salt. It floats through the air and tickles along your hair. The sun soaks into your skin and warms you from within. Most people wouldn't notice the difference, the way each place is not quite the same, the way they hold a difference. Most people probably don't care.
But Sero Hanta does. He feels the difference in each place that he goes. He notes the difference in air and the way it touches his skin. Maybe it's because he's weird or maybe it's because he still remembers the air he grew up in. The way it would press down on his shoulders, pushing the world onto him. Maybe it's because he's not quite convinced he's gotten away from it.
