When he chose to become Death he wasn't sure exactly what it would mean. He didn't realise he'd end up leaving humanity behind completely, forgetting all the ways he used to be human.

In 2015, Steve and the Avengers search for Bucky Barnes, thanks to a little extra intel from the future. GEN-based hurt/comfort/angst story, heavy on friendship, recovery, and examination of one very traumatized guy from the 1940s. COMPLETE, Standalone.
This canon-based multi-verse story takes place immediately after Age of Ultron. What does that mean? Because this is part of my Winter Soldier Time Travel series, it takes place in a canon-compliant timeline offshoot from the original canon-based story. I recommend you read Part 1 of the series (Winter Soldier: Resurrection), but you can easily understand this story without doing so. However, Part 1 is an easy read, less than 40K words, and it'll give you the background for this story. Part 2 of the series isn't relevant to Part 3, so you don't have to read that long story to understand this one at all. The end of Part 1 leads directly into Part 3 (Isn't the MCU multiverse fun?). Summary
“Yeah, yeah, you're super strong, walking through a downpour is probably so easy-” She said sarcastically, but Sam didn't get to hear her finish what she was saying.
Instead, he dropped his phone as he was unceremoniously punched in the stomach, his body suddenly flying back into an alley.
His vision went completely dark for a single millisecond when his head hit the concrete, and the rain was obscuring his vision once he came back to himself. The pounding rain hurt, feeling like little pinpricks on his skin. The bag and all the action figures were scattered across the alleyway, getting completely ruined, but he managed to keep his grip on his umbrella.
“Oh, little bird.” The sickeningly familiar voice cut through the sound of rainfall. “Looks like I've caught you again.”
OR: Sam gets attacked. In the lull between reality and unconsciousness, his mind reminds him of all those he's lost.
