Welcome, heroes, to this kitchen game of mine. My request is simple: transform my bounty into something new, sublime. Please me, and soon you shall know: all that you seek, and a way home.
"Oh, this must be a challenge left by the great Phagousa," Phainon says. "It makes sense—they are the Titan of Banquets in addition to oceans and wine, after all." He scans the clue once more. "I think... we need to cook a feast in order to get out of here and obtain the information Aglaea sent us here for."
Or, Mydei and Phainon must work together to cook their way out of the ruins of Styxia, escape room-style.
Written for Phaidei Week Day 3: Rivalry. Loosely inspired by their English VAs' streams together and Escape the Kitchen.

Aglaea is on him as soon as his foot touches down on the Sea of Genesis’s watery marble. Let me, she begins, reaching, but Mydei curls his arm tighter around Phainon’s back and Aglaea’s hand falls away, golden thread snuffed out like a light. He holds her gaze, bites his tongue around the childish, spiteful question he longs to ask:
Haven’t you done enough?
after Phainon's retrieval from Nikador's Trial, Mydei stays.

Mydei stares at him, sucking in a sharp breath. Heat burns in his golden eyes, and his lips curl in a surprised but pleased smile. “You’re not half bad yourself,” Mydei says.
“Thanks?”
“At first, I couldn’t tell if you were a dumb jock who stumbled into a doctoral candidacy or a genuinely brilliant mind that won the genetic lottery,” Mydei drawls.
Doctoral candidate Phainon walks into the special collections in search of a rare book and finds a rare librarian. Mydei is not impressed.

Phainon remains wide awake, restless with a kind of nervous energy he can neither deplete or dispel. Anticipation has him sitting on the edge of his bed, naked except for a sheet across his middle, his fingers curling around the edge of the mattress as he waits.
He doesn’t wait long.
Mydei enters in silence, bare armed and draped only in a loose chiton.
Phainon and Mydei say their first goodbyes in silence.
