Dash didn't intend to kill him, really he didn't. He just wanted him to stop LOOKING at him like that.
Valerie did everything she could to restart Danny's heart when she found him, but he was gone before she even got him on his back.
So of course, they were both absolutely flabbergasted to see him walk into class like nothing was wrong, cool as a summer's day, and as cold as the dead. A ghost, and he didn't even know it.
