It’s genuinely uncomfortable to watch.
Especially since Bruce knows that change. He’s seen it in the mirror before entering parties or nightclubs. He’s always referred to it, internally, as 'putting on my better face.' The façade is his least favourite part of the day, ranking just below 'getting punched by supervillains.'
The idea that Superman is just Kal's better face, that would explain a lot.
It would also mean Bruce isn't alone.

Summary
What happens when Harleen starts working at Arkham Asylum and is assigned to a certain redheaded, green-skinned patient? How does one woman find love in the most unpredictable place and time, while the other finds a dark truth that pulls her deeper into the world of insanity? And how will Gotham's future look like over the escalating political conflict that is threatening to dismantle the asylum from within?
This is my take on Harleen's origin story. The spotlight is on her and Ivy - how they meet, how their dynamic evolves and how they grow as individuals. Joker is depicted but as a minor character (albiet his notorious influence on Harleen which is addressed as well). It's all happening while Arkham is facing one of its biggest challenges - proving its right to exist and care for the worst criminals Gotham City has ever known.
The story takes place in the early 2000s technology-wise.
