He’s shocked, to say the least. Normal Shane does not talk about sex. Ever. He dodges the subject with ninja-like precision. In fact, if Hayden didn't know that Shane has someone he sneaks out to meet so frequently, he would think Shane is still a virgin.

“Jackie?” Shane’s question cuts through the silence, and Jackie winces at the frantic rasp of his voice.
“Right here, honey.” She tries to keep her voice light, wrapping her hand around Hayden’s wrist and meeting his worried gaze over the phone. “What’s going on?”
“I need your help.” Shane croaks out. “They called, but they won’t - I need to know if he’s okay, but they won’t tell me.” The end of his sentence disappears in something so close to a sob it makes something in Jackie’s chest freeze over.
