“...What?” Kohaku blinked, stunned.
Senku avoided her gaze. “Kohaku... I’m sorry but... that was a mistake, I was drunk and I wasn’t thinking straight.” His voice was steady, but too neutral. Too clinical. Like ripping off a bandage without even looking.
“Oh... I see...” Her throat tightened. “Yeah. I mean... I was drunk too, so... whatever I said...” She forced a bitter laugh. “It’s just nonsense.”
Her hands clenched under the table, nails digging into her palms. Her voice was shaking, but she bit it back. Holding it together by threads. She wouldn’t cry. Not here. Not in front of him.

The silence buzzed around her like static.
She didn’t cry. Not yet. But something behind her eyes burned like a warning light– flashing red, screaming pay attention in a voice that sounded too much like her own.
By the time her phone buzzed from the hallway–another schedule alert– she didn’t move to get it.
She just sat there, alone, in a too-bright bathroom, trying to breathe like her world wasn’t about to change forever.
It took her twelve tries to type it in.
Her fingers kept shaking, hovering above the keyboard. One time she wrote 'early demon symptoms' as a joke. It didn't make her laugh like she expected it to. Just reminded her of what she lost. Specifically who she lost.
