Summary
Harry walked through the Forbidden Forest, mind numb, still shaken by what he had seen in Snape’s memories. He stumbled over unseen roots and dips in the ground, but kept moving forward.
As he drew near, he folded the cloak under his shirt. Placed his wand up his sleeve and dropped the stone in his pocket, not being able to bring himself to let go of the scant comfort of his loved ones being near.
‘I was, it seems . . . mistaken,’ said Voldemort.
‘You weren’t.’

When Harry appears in the Limbo of Kings Cross, this time he is not alone. Voldemort appears with him, but it is the Voldemort Harry remembers from the Diary. Instead of a dead Dumbledore however, they are approached by a figure in black.
‘Ah, my boys,’ came a disembodied voice, cold and rasping across their senses. ‘Finally I have you both here before me.’
Harry stared at the black figure in front of him. He glanced at Tom and saw the fear in the boy. ‘You would be Lord Death then?’ he asked calmly. ‘Lovely to meet you finally.’

She watched as her best friend, her brother, drew in a deep breath and closed his eyes.
The tall man raised his pale wand, his head tilted to one side as he considered his action. He spoke the words. A green light leapt from him towards her Harry.
She moved. Casting herself forward she spun in front of her brother. Catching herself on his arms that came up automatically to catch hold of her, his eyes flew open to meet her honey brown ones as the spell hit her in the back.
His emerald orbs blew wide with shock as hers, filled with love, met them for the last time.
'There is another way.'
Her thought embedded itself in his mind as the light left her eyes and she went limp in his arms.

Summary
Hermione Granger is a semi-socially adjusted genius who would really rather not alter her life plans to study at a school she's never heard of before. She had dreams and plans and wishes and goals. None of them included being a witch. But here she was anyway, a real witch with a real wand, a legacy shrouded in secrecy, and a few too many titles for an 11-year-old.
Or; Hermione's parents are a bit more reluctant to send their only child to magic boarding school. They also happen to be squibs who passed on a pretty rich magical legacy.
