The moment they’d bundled Bradley into the medical bay and the heady cocktail of elation and relief and pride had quieted its song in his bloodstream, a strange sense of detachment had descended on him. Two weeks later, it still hasn’t lifted. Bradley feels like he’s been watching the world from behind a thick pane of frosted glass—everything muffled and faraway and just beyond his reach.
If anything, the nightmares are a relief, because at least they feel real.
Maybe it’s his mind trying to protect itself from the trauma. Maybe the bailout rattled his brain harder than anyone realised. Maybe, he thinks, letting his head fall to one side to catch a glimpse of the unfamiliar landscape peeking through the gap in the curtains, it’s just the surreality of everything that’s come after. Like ending up here, in Jake Seresin's childhood home.

Reuben looks between the two of them, clearly confused. “Uh… isn’t y’all’s anniversary coming up soon? When is it again?” He turns to Natasha for backup, like she’ll confirm this isn’t as weird as it sounds.
Nat just shrugs, unbothered. "Must be next month or so,” she says, like this is a totally normal conversation.
Bradley blinks. Once. Twice. “Our what?”
Jake makes a faint choking sound from across the table. “Anniversary for what, exactly?”
Now everyone looks genuinely confused. Javy squints, Mickey’s staring like he’s trying to solve a math problem, and Bob looks one wrong answer from chugging his soda and ditching them all.
Reuben’s voice goes slow and careful, like he’s explaining a simple concept to a particularly dense child. “Your relationship?”

Summary
“Dude, is that Rooster?” Javy exclaims, leaning closer to Jake’s ear.
The name startles Jake so severely his drink almost slips through his fingers. Tightening his grip, Jake whips his head forwards, his pulse thudding in his throat as he searches downwards through the sea of writhing bodies.
On instinct Jake wants to say no, to laugh the question off because of course it can’t be, but once Javy points to help him, Jake’s mouth parts in pure disbelief.
It is Rooster, clear as day.
Jake can’t tear his eyes away if he tries.

“ Twins Bradley thought to himself with a note of hysteria, They’re twins.
That’s when Tyler’s eyes turned onto him and he smiled, something soft and sweet that Bradley had never in his life seen on Jake’s face, and he tilted his head, “Where are my manners? Who’s your friend?”
“I wouldn’t go that far,” Bradley interjected, “Wingmen, maybe, but not friends.”
Both men laughed, the same sound, the same toss of the head, the same smile.
“But I saved your life, Bradshaw, that’s gotta mean something,” Jake teased.
“Sometimes, I wish you hadn’t,” Bradley deadpanned, pulling even more laughter from the brothers.
“Forgive my brother, he’s never been the best with manners,” Tyler leaned over, holding a hand out in greeting with that same kind smile on his face, “I’m Tyler.”
“Bradley,” he reciprocated the handshake, feeling the callouses on Tyler’s hands as their hands touched. “
