Summary
Askeladd is proud to have his life completely under control. But the death of distant relatives puts an end to his carefully planned daily routine. Suddenly he has to take care of six-year-old Thorfinn, who is anything but an angel and has made a firm resolution to not like Askeladd. When it is revealed to him there is another little boy searching for a new home, the chaos is perfect. For Canute does not even speak the same language as he does.
I only take them in until they come of age. Then they have to leave!
Askeladd is convinced of that. But feelings cannot be planned. And so Askeladd must admit to himself that he is beginning to like the boys... -

Summary
Bjorn was dead. No doubt about it. But as soon as Askeladd and Thorfinn finished their duel Bjorn seems to have miraculously returned to life. A little later, strange things start happening in Gainsborough. Nightly attacks on people, bite wounds scattered all over their bodies and never healing injuries puzzle Askeladd, Thorfinn and Canute. Will they figure out what's going on? What does Bjorn have to do with all of this? And will all of them come through these events unscathed?

If early death awaited him anyway, even if he tried not to attract attention, why hide? Powerless, intimidated, a pawn on a never-quiet battlefield that costs hundreds of lives.
He had had enough. Enough of all the fighting and senseless bloodshed. Enough of being Canute. If it took a prince, no, a king to set this world right he would be that king. -

Summary
The sound of footsteps in the snow made Canute jump in shock. When he turned around, he saw that Thorfinn had stepped behind him. Obviously bored, he picked up one of the discarded twigs and began to listlessly scrape the bark off with one of his daggers.
"Will you lend me the second one?", Canute asked.
Thorfinn stared at him as if he had asked him if the snow was white.
Canute cleared his throat. "I mean your second dagger."
Thorfinn snorted.
"I know what you mean. But I'm certainly not putting a weapon in your hand, princess."
_______The villagers are dead and Canute can't find peace of mind until they have been given a proper resting place.
