    Summary

Aziraphale cannot explain the sadness that has lived in his chest for years.

Crowley cannot explain why he feels as though he has spent his entire life searching for something he cannot name.

When their paths cross in a small Soho bookshop, both are struck by an impossible sense of familiarity with a complete stranger. A feeling of home. An ancient longing. The inexplicable certainty that they have lost something far too important to forget.

But some memories endure even when remembrance is gone.

And some loves refuse to die.

For the heart remembers what the mind has forgotten.

And six thousand years of love are far too long to vanish without leaving a trace.

A very exhausted Crowley finds himself stranded in London late at night, with a dog as his co-pilot. Of course there is no way that a certain diligent night porter named Angel bends the rules just a little to grant them refuge – or is there?

This is a GO3 fixit fic

The premise is: I don't think Aziraphale would have stayed away for nearly 3 years then only come back when he needed something. I don't. And if he'd come back sooner, what would have changed? How would the plot have unfurled if they had more time and not just one lousy day together?

“How? How can I say goodbye to you?” Crowley sucked in a breath, exhaling shakily.

He felt a warm hand against his cheek, thumb gently swiping away the tears. Crowley looked up to see the angel still smiling at him, eyes crinkled with warmth and glistening with tears.

    “Oh, Crowley.” Aziraphale exhaled.

    _____________

How do you say goodbye to someone you’ve loved since the beginning itself?

Crowley and Aziraphale discuss their final decision in the garden, before they realise one simple loophole. You can still spend an eternity together if time no longer exists. And if you've been placed inside a lucid dream-like reality, perhaps things can be manipulated a little more than it seems.

One last little adventure with Aziraphale and Crowley, living out a lifetime, seeing the stars, and falling in love before returning to the bookshop.

The Eternal Flame, the very centre of creation, has been extinguished. Something else, something brighter, takes its place.

Or: Aziraphale and Crowley spent their existence messing up every assignment ever given to them. Somehow, they are still surprised when their self-sacrifice doesn’t go as expected.
