Even though there was a poetry to the canon ending for Red Feather and Abish, I couldn't help but imagine how their story would have evolved if they lived. In this story, the Shoshone emerge victorious, and both Red Feather and Abish survive. Left to grapple with the aftermath of war, Abish finds herself torn between the world she once knew and the one that is slowly becoming her home.

With Jacob there were expectations. A silent, obedient wife who will not be the last one for her husband to take. A mother of many, born dead or alive, that would fill her womb with every passing season.
The expectations had been branded into her skin until they welted up red. They had been carved deep into her bones, poisoning the marrow and hollowing her out. Laying heavy upon her shoulders during the day and deep within her heart at night. That became routine, became her life, until she felt as if she had drowned. As if Jacob had consumed her the moment she said, "I do."

Summary
She pauses, glancing up from her examination of the wound to look at him. She’s not sure what she expects to see, but it’s not this—this strange darkness and severity to his expression.
It reminds her of the icy stare he gives enemies in battle—the one that makes them more likely to lay down their weapons than have to face him in a fight. He’s never aimed that sort of look at her before, though.
A shiver slithers down her spine, her brain processing the predatory glint in his expression and telling her that she’s prey.
But this is Kakashi. She has nothing to be scared of.
