Something dreadful roils inside him—a tinge of disappointment.
Not at Kasuga—never at him—but at himself, for not having the right words, the right face, the right ease to offer in return. For feeling so weighed down by nothing in particular, and everything at once.
It’s ridiculous, really, how even in a moment this light, this harmless, something in him still braces for an impact that never comes.
And yet, Kasuga just keeps smiling, as if the silence Kiryu gives him is enough.
As if he’s enough.
It’s in the flicker of neon, in the warmth of cheap whiskey, in the shape of a name spoken aloud.
Kiryu remembers what it means to ache. -

There’s shreds of old memories nibbling at him at his nerve ends. Every breath he takes torques his insides, strangles his throat, and he remembers, oh so clearly, everything.

He would remember something being as painful as this.

It’s seldom not frightening, the way Kasuga breathes him in and stares down at his mouth like it’s the best thing he’s ever known.
How he answers each press of lips like the tide does to the full moon, as if he cannot bear to be without Kiryu’s mouth for more than necessary, as if kissing is the whole point and not just a means to an end.

It hurts. It hurts as it tears itself through him, the sense of grief so strong that Ichiban has no idea where it begins or ends.
I’m sorry, Ichiban thinks helplessly, I’m sorry you’re hurting, I’m sorry I can’t do anything to fix this right now, I’m so sorry—
’’What‘s on your mind, Kasuga?’’
Ichiban’s tongue sticks to the roof of his mouth. How you’ve been holding onto this hurt all by yourself. That it should be illegal for a man like you to carry pain this vast.
”If Nancy’s having fun.” Ichiban says instead, with probably more emotion than he means to.
Kiryu tilts his head at Ichiban and the look on his face spells out his confusion. ”Nancy…the crawfish?”

It started with a photo. It was kinda blurry. Well, really blurry actually and it took Zhao several moments of intense squinting at his phone screen to figure out what the hell he was looking at.
Why was he staring at some blurry photo of a pec with a scar on it?
Zhao was pretty sure that Kasuga hadn't intended for him to be the recipient.Another message from Kasuga popped up while he was still studying the picture with confusion.
