Summary
During the journey to Erid, Rocky discovers that Grace is a deeply traumatized little who has spent his entire life hiding his classification and caring for himself. Rocky gradually becomes his caregiver, although Grace believes the arrangement is temporary. When they reach Erid, Grace expects Rocky to return to Adrian and leave him behind. Instead, Adrian welcomes Grace into their family, and an entire planet celebrates the strange, brilliant alien who saved Rocky and their sun.
Or Grace is finally appreciated, hugged and loved in all the ways he always should have been, but in a Little/Caregiver setting. Because goddamit someone give this cutie patootie a hug

Grace is coming to the realization of what he might have gotten himself into, having grown up with only Earth media can really put a damper on the the whole 'getting to be an alien specimen' aspect of first contact with an alien species. the scientist in him is excited to teach all he can and participate in experiments! the other side knows what would have happened if he and Rocky went to Earth.

And there, floating in the vast expanse of space, is a tree.
“What the actual—?” I mumble.
“What Grace see?” Rocky asks eagerly.
“It’s a, um…” I zoom in on it, making sure it’s really what I’m seeing. It’s seriously a tree, a large maple tree. Without any soil, the roots drift as if tendrils underwater in the zero G. Just above the roots, the trunk is skewed, like it’s growing around something. The bark is red, the leaves dead, most branches bare.
“It’s a tree,” I say. “Like, from Earth, kind of tree.”
“Grace lying,” Rocky claims, skittering over to see for himself. Then, “Grace… not lying.”
