    Summary

“How can you do this?” she spits. “Pretend they never existed?”

Lestat falters, his smile turning sad. “Oh, ma petite.” he sighs.

It sounds condescending. It’s also very unlike Lestat, who would have sooner had a shouting fit had she brought it up back in New Orleans. Never one to talk about his feelings.

    Now, he keeps her gaze.

“I have just learned how not to show it. You will, too, in time. I will teach you how to endure.”

Lestat and Claudia survive the trial.

No, this is no great departure from that. That, the well-trodden road past the nightmare, complete with adamant and sweeping denial that he was even dreaming at all. If it were New Orleans, they might already even be laying back down, Lestat already waxing poetic on the ‘bad blood’ he must have had that evening and the horrors it does for one’s sleep.

And yet, it is not New Orleans. Bummer. Louis could use a smoke.

Louis, one headbutt into his journey of re-learning the joys of co-sleeping with Lestat.

For a brief moment there is nothing but fear in Lestat's eyes.

Fear that the stutter has returned.

It started when Lestat was nine. Louis knows this.
