Summary
One thousand, six hundred and twenty years Sun Wukong has been walking the Earth. He had watched the gods rise and fall, watched mountains grow and collapse, and helped generations of his monkeys live and die. He had gained immortality ages ago, his stomach filled with knowledge, peaches, wine, and pills. His eyes were stained with smoke, his fur tainted by unholy fire, his head wrapped with gold, and his heart heavy with grief.
In all his years, the famed Monkey King hadn’t made many friends. He had been trapped beneath a mountain for half of a century, only released when Tripitaka arrived. The monk had given him a mission, a means to protect and serve, a batch of orders to complete before he could be truly free. He had fought, teeth bared and a growl buried deep in his chest before Tripitaka had held him back, crowning him with a band of pain. Wukong followed his master across mountains and rivers, traveling through cities and kingdoms to complete their mission, desperate to see the one he followed truly happy.
It had been centuries since then, and Sun Wukong was alone.

As soon as Wukong froze, MK knew he had said too much, way too much, too fast, and without restraint. And that fiery glare turned on him, setting golden flames alight underneath him; suddenly he was so hot he could barely breathe, caught in a rage not directed at him but still presented to him nonetheless, like a moth that flew too close to flame and burned to flakes of grey ash.
