This story was inspired by a line from Ian McDiarmid, the actor who portrayed the Emperor himself, in an interview for the Star Wars anniversary celebration: "I like to think Palpatine might sip a little blood in his spare time and rewatch his own performances on Disney+." And so I thought—why not truly make Palpatine an ancient vampire noble who has lived for eons? Let us see how Anakin becomes entangled with such a genuine pure-blood fiend, and whether he can ever break free from the bonds of the allure cast by this primeval bloodkind.
