Summary
The thing Frank said in their first session that kind of stuck was that it’s okay if Shannon wasn’t the love of his life. It’s okay that he loved her, but he might love somebody else more in the future. Moving on is proof of growing.
So, that’s what Eddie has been doing. Moving on.
But then, that meant Eddie had to abandon the belief he should be finding Christopher a mother, and start thinking about what he wanted.
Which opened a whole new can of worms.
OR
On Buck's birthday, things start to look up. It's all uphill from there.

Summary
He’s not jealous. He’s not, because that would be ridiculous. Buck is still his best friend and he’s at the Diaz household at least five out of seven nights of the week. He is still a very permanent fixture of their lives, helping Christopher with his homework and making dinner for them and driving them around town in Eddie’s truck. Eddie has nothing to be jealous of.
Now if only Eddie’s brain could get with the program.

Or, after returning to the 118, Eddie becomes a full-time paramedic and Ravi becomes Buck's partner. Eddie absolutely doesn't feel anything about that, not at all.- Language:

Summary
“You’ve spent the last twenty-four hours implying that I killed my husband,” Eddie snapped, sounding a little feral to his own ears, “you refused to help me, refused to listen to me, and now you want us to be separated? Would you ask a straight couple to separate? Isn’t it a legally recognised right to be with your partner during times of duress?” Eddie was absolutely lying on that last point, he had no idea if that was true. He knew they couldn’t be called to testify on each other, but, more to the point, they weren’t even married.
Buck didn’t speak, he stared at Eddie with big eyes, like he was waiting to wake up in some cage all over again.
“I’ve been through hell today to get him back, I am not leaving him alone with some backwater, homophobic asshole of a police force for another second.”
“Mr Diaz, I hope you realise I could have you arrested for—”
“For what? Being rightfully protective? Does your town have the money for a Hollywood discrimination suit? Because his step-mother is an LAPD sergeant and I am feeling extremely litigious.”

Mother's Boy from Eddie's POV, canon divergent ending.
