Summary
Adeline adored her friends.
And her friends adored her too!
However, while Adeline's life could be compared to a soft winter sun — the kind that warms cheeks reddened by the cold — light clouds were beginning to gather and dim its light.

Summary
In every portrait before the age of twelve, it would seem to anybody that the Baronry of Mistria has two daughters. Just a year apart– not even that, the Baron and Baroness had been quick to make good on that old saying about an heir and a spare. Maybe they’d hoped for a son, but it hadn’t been in the cards. At least, not yet.
No, two girls stand on either side of the seated Baroness. Their father rests a hand on the eldest’s shoulder. Adeline. Beautiful, proper, with a serious glint to her eyes that the artist had painstakingly rendered in the painting. At age thirteen, she was already every bit a lady. Soft dresses, long frills. Hair worn half down, half up in intricate patterns. Comfortable in her femininity. The perfect daughter.
On the other side? Eiland. Or, well… not quite Eiland. Again: not yet.
Eiland looks at an old family portrait in a storeroom and thinks about the passage of time and his relationship with masculinity.
