For their own safety, the old advisor said. So the curse cannot touch them. So they can grow up free of this gold-poison.
And Thorin, who had seen what three generations of hunger had built, who had watched his grandfather die and his father vanish, and who bore the beast marks on his own body, learned to accept that perhaps his sons were better off without him.But he never stopped hoping for the day he might break the curse.
Never stopped dreaming of the day he might reclaim Erebor and drive out the dragon his family had made.

Summary
Obi-Wan is not one to accept gifts, because Jedi do not value physical things. However, when that gift is personally handed to him by Chancellor Palpatine, Obi-Wan feels pressured into taking it, for reasons he cannot describe. Cody believes the gift to be unnatural, but the longer Obi-Wan keeps this gift in his possession, the more ensnared he becomes. Meanwhile, Cody is entangled in a different sort of web, the web of emotions he never was taught to understand, all while fighting to keep his vode safe after a crash landing in CIS territory. Obi-Wan and Cody may lose themselves together, but perhaps they can find themselves together, too.
