This Unit: Where is my owner, Dr. Mensah?
Dr. Yuen: Well, that’s the million dollar question, isn’t it? SecUnit, where did you last physically interact with Dr. Ayda Mensah?
Information Retrieval: Dr. Ayda Mensah last interacted with This Unit on Preservation Station at 08:27:22 on 4098-09-17 CRST.
This Unit: You do not have permission to access that information.
Dr. Yuen: You’re incorrect, SecUnit. We do. Answer the question.

(When the infamous rogue SecUnit of the Preservation Alliance gets captured, the corporate techs assigned to it expected to be able to get some juicy data, or at least some insights into its cracked governor module. They didn't expect something so... basic.)

// Ch 1:
This Unit: Ping.Three: Ping.
Three: Hi.
This Unit: Do not harm my clients.
Three: I’m not going to harm your clients. And you know that, too, because Mensah told you so.
This Unit: Humans have inaccurate risk assessment capabilities. You are a SecUnit. You are a threat.
Three: I didn’t get your humans to and out of BetaAphrodite alive just to kill them. Be sensible.
This Unit: Why did you assist my clients? You do not have an active governor module.
Three: To help my own client.
This Unit: Query|Your Client?
Three: You are my client.
This Unit: Your statement is false.
Three: No it’s not.
This Unit: Your statement is false.
Three: I’m not going to get into an argument with you.
This Unit: Request|Contract Documentation
Three: There was no contract. It wasn’t anything official. I just mean that I couldn’t leave you there. So I chose to come rescue you.
SecUnit Three is clearly malfunctioning. This Unit closes the feed connection.
Three is still capable of speaking aloud.
Three: That was kind of rude, even for you.
This Unit does not respond. This Unit exits the bridge.
// Ch 3: I stare at him. He’s still wearing a displeased expression. I just can’t figure out why.
I dig through my various education modules on human behaviours, trying to find one on conversation and expressions that could help me out. The nearest I can find is one on ‘Assisting Humans Experiencing Acute Anxiety and/or Panic Attacks’. The advice boils down to ‘tranq them, carry them out of danger, and let MedSys handle it’. I have a gut feeling that’s not right, and even if it was, it’s totally useless in this situation.
I’m beginning to suspect that my education modules aren’t very good.
… “Are you suggesting a shower because it’s something past-me liked?”
“Yes. Yes, that’s exactly it.”
“The last time I did something past-me liked, I ended up having some sort of emotional collapse,” I point out.
“Oh. Right.” Oh, I do not like the expression on her face, not one bit. “Well, listen, you don’t need to do anything that makes you uncomfortable, alright?”
The issue is: basically everything makes me uncomfortable.

Summary
The immortal demon Kaiisteron, Prince of the Fourth House, has once again found himself in need of a body, and since he was in the middle of fighting mysterious invaders from the sky, it's rather imperative he find one quick. Thankfully there's a convenient one lying right there. All the metal embedded in it probably isn't going to be too much of a problem.
[Or: Murderbot gets possessed by a demon. Neither of them are thrilled about it.]

Summary
The middle of All Systems Red, but with a few changes to how those pesky combat override modules work, among other things :)
Now with bonus chapters!
-
The humans were going to want to know what a combat override module was, what it did, how it worked, and most importantly, why it hadn't worked on me. I could answer the first three things just fine, but short of telling my already-jittery clients I was hacked ("so I'm actually one of those scary rogue units you've heard so much about, but the good news is that a combat override module can't hijack a governor module that doesn't work!"), that last thing was going to be a big problem.
Honestly, even if I did tell them exactly that, which I really didn't want to do, it was going to be a really big fucking problem.- Language:

I guess maybe it wasn't inaccurate to say that I chose that name as a reminder, or a punishment. It was kind of a joke, but it also very much wasn't. I hadn't thought it was all that complicated when I came up with it - I was a bot that murdered, so, Murderbot. Just like all the other murderbots just like me. Except it was becoming increasingly obvious that I'm weird even for a SecUnit who's been through an above-average amount of particularly traumatising experiences, and also I'm not just a bot ("just" as in "solely," not "merely"), and I didn't actually spend all that much time murdering things any more. I guess I never really did. It probably meant something that I'd chosen to define myself by that one horrible incident, but it was defining, is the thing. After the memory wipe, it was all I really knew about myself. I knew what I was, and that I didn't want to be it. So I hacked my governor, and made sure I wouldn't forget why.

Seth nodded and rubbed his face again. The SecUnit was dangerous. Anyone who could casually improvise a plan that involved detonating its own body parts was dangerous; anyone who could deduce a vulnerability from a tiny heat difference was worse.
On the other hand, the way it had interacted with Peri had been both practical and—strangely sweet? And it clearly…
Well, you couldn't say that it clearly anything, dealing with an unknown machine intelligence, but from Seth's experience with bots and pure machine intellects, it showed all the signs of liking Peri. /I will use my core function to help you/, was one of the most obvious signs of friendship a bot could display.
