Summary
“They just follow it around, copying it and helping it and bothering it so much that it's like, worn down into loving the duckling back and looking out for it.”
“So,” said Eddie, furrowing his brow. “In this scenario, you are—”
“A baby duckling, newly hatched into the world with no idea what’s going on.”
“And I am—”
“The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes.”

Summary
Missing Chris is less of an emotion these days and more of a physical entity. He’s sure everyone can see that he’s slowly hollowing himself out, that he can’t do much of anything else.
But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
(or, gerrard messes with the team's schedules and eddie 'i just drove my son to flee the state' diaz is the only option to watch mara and jee-yun after school on tuesdays, which, shouldn't be a problem at all, right?)

Summary
“God I’m so gay,” Eddie says completely out of nowhere, followed by a sigh. “And if I wasn’t already aware, today would have been extremely eye-opening.”
Maddie turns to look at him, with an amused look on her face.
“So we’re talking about it then?”
“Talking about what?” Eddie responds nonchalantly. “My sexuality? You already knew about that from wine night.”
“Your feelings for my brother,” Maddie clarifies, and Eddie flushes.

(Eddie agrees to be Buck's fake patient for his mandatory Rescue Training. Eddie underestimates how attractive he's going to find Buck while he's 'rescuing' him.)

Summary
Buck had been right, last year. Eddie is an ally. One of his buddies in basic training had been gay. And Mills never said anything outright, but Eddie was pretty sure she had fit into… one of the letters, Eddie wasn’t sure which, not that it mattered. And his family - the 118 and their families - was full of people of all identities. He supported them all. That’s what friends do. What allies do.
-
Or: Eddie, still reeling from the loss of Christopher, goes to the LA Pride Parade and finds himself unable to continue avoiding the truth about his feelings for Buck.
