He's more than disappointed that there's no Derek Hale in his office. Stiles grips tight onto the dream and tries to pretend, for a second, that he's back there on the beach; he's nine years-old, just got his first kiss from Derek Hale, and he can start over.
Instead, reality sets in; Stiles smashed Derek's heart into pieces when he skipped town, and Derek will never want to see him again. Who could blame him?

Summary
Stiles is one of those, ‘love or hate’ kinds of students. The smart-ass, obnoxious, loud-mouthed sort of kid that a teacher will either love to teach, or hate to teach. He tends to be a hit with the older teachers and the younger teachers; the ones who are either young enough to relate to him or old enough to appreciate how different he is from the other students. It’s the ones in the middle, the ones who feel like they deserve his respect but never seem to be able to earn it, that hate him. Finstock and Harris could write sonnets about being pissed off with Stiles.
But basically, everyone has their side. Love or hate. No in-betweens.
Except for Derek. Derek’s in between. Predictably.

Well, for Stiles it’s a deserted stretch of road behind the Hale house, half trapped in a car wreck after being abducted by hunters. Frankly, he could really use Derek’s help if he’s going to get out of this alive. Mates are supposed to be able to tell when the other is in pain, right? As Derek would probably say, 'querido, no.'

It's kinda funny, Stiles thinks, that his first game in a Grand Slam (that's right, he's playing in a freaking Grand Slam) is against a fellow American. Hell, he's a fellow Californian. Derek Hale is slightly taller than him, his face is stubbled and just as grumpy in real life as he's seen in numerous photos and video coverage. And yeah, in any other circumstance Stiles might admit that the stubble and general sense of 'stay the hell away from me' totally works for him. But right now it's just intimidating as fuck.
