    He collided with someone solid.

    Coffee sloshed. Paper bags slipped from his grip. The impact jolted him out of his head so fast he barely had time to curse before instinct kicked in.

    “Oh-! I’m so sorry- I wasn’t looking, I-!”

    Sonic dropped into a crouch immediately, scrambling to catch what he could before it hit the floor. His heart was already racing, embarrassment heating his face. He hated being clumsy in public, the attention, the thought of ruining someone’s evening.

    “I’m really sorry,” he repeated, words tumbling over each other. “I wasn’t paying attention, that one’s on me, I swear-”

    The response wasn’t sharp or annoyed. It was rather calm.

    “It’s fine.”

    Sonic froze.

    He knew that voice.

    He looked up.

    Shadow stood there as if he belonged to the quiet center of the room, untouched by the chaos Sonic had brought with him. His coffee cup was tilted slightly, a few dark drops staining the lid, but he didn’t seem bothered by it. He looked… relaxed. Poised deliberately.

    Crimson eyes met Sonic’s.

    For a second, Sonic forgot how to breathe.

    Shadow squinted, looking at the crowd of Mobians, and cursed when he spotted a flash of bright blue in the middle of a swarm of excited girls.

    When green eyes met red, Shadow’s heart clenched at how desperate the usually cool and confident hedgehog looked at him.

    He growled, and while most of the crowd started to back off, a few of the more stubborn ones looked at him with disinterest.

    “I want you to play along, but hit me if you’re uncomfortable,” Shadow whispered into Sonic’s ear as he wrapped an arm around Sonic’s waist.

     

    In which Shadow has a dilemma: he's jealous. Of how close Sonic lets Amy be. Of how close his fangirls think they should be. Of everyone invading the blue blur's personal space. And then he finally acts on it. What happens next?

    Sonic was really beginning to hate all of this dimension-hopping.

    He ends up in a parallel universe where everyone's personalities are different, including his rivals. Shadow, who Sonic usually knew as being cold and angry all the time, a true hater really, is much softer and more affectionate in this dimension, but only towards Sonic.

    As Sonic and alternate universe gang try to figure out how to get him home, feelings start bubbling up, and this experience has him seeing his rival in a new light. How is he meant to face him when he goes back?
