She couldn’t help but look up from his chest to his face at the certainty he placed in those words. Even with the hesitation he had been riddled with since she first arrived tonight.

Also, what circumstances would it take to not only change Rishe's sense of propriety towards intimacy, and what would it take to change Rishe's stance from always working against Arnold to working with him?

Summary
Jinshi has always sparkled for others, but Maomao has never been mesmerized by it. It was just another thing she was immune to. Now here he was, not particularly sparkly, just obviously in love, and Maomao felt what she could only describe as being enraptured.
Maomao knew she needed to say thank you, but at this moment she did not trust her tongue with words. She was afraid something rather mushy would come to her if she tried to speak, and she wasn’t ready for that yet. Which felt silly to acknowledge - that she had married this man, but was struggling to love him.
And it was not loving him - Maomao had deduced this now. It had almost nothing to do with Jinshi at all. Her constipation with regards to her own ability to love had nothing to do with her commitment to him, either. She cared for and admired him deeply, more than she had anyone else, except maybe Loumen. Maomao hopes someday she is able to admit that to him, but she is still accepting that it is even safe to admit to herself.
