Summary
“I am honoured,” Wei Ying softly murmured then, when they decided on his betrothal for him. “To be marrying a Lan.”
“Wangji,” Lan Qiren had offered, kindly. “His name—is Lan Wangji.”
But today, Lan Wangji is an ancestral tablet that Wei Ying bows to, newly painted and enshrined with gold.
(He is the name that the Gusu Lan Clan howls, as they fall to their knees and keel over in mourning.)

Summary
Since he was a child, since Lan Wangji had first become aware of his own alienating effect on others, he has long resigned himself to a loveless marriage. Perhaps even a companionate one, so long as his partner was agreeable and unbothersome and let him have his own space.
He could not have even begun to predict Wei Wuxian.
(A canonverse arranged marriage fic.)
