Even from this distance, which is not far just within the circle of darkness surrounding the fire pit, Fushiguro can see the new scars on Itadori’s face. The one that cuts through his eyebrow and the one on the corner of his mouth. It is frustrating for Fushiguro. To not know how they happened, because he spent the last half—the most important half— lying unconscious on the hard concrete while Shoko healed him.

It is so easy then, in that moment, to attribute the irregular thump of his heart as a response to the noonday light accenting the lanky lines of Nanami’s body and highlighting the curls of his bleached blond hair like a paragon come to life and suddenly, Gojo feels unusually wrong-footed.
“You’re staring Satoru,” Suguru says from beside him in a tone that is deceptively light, but Gojo catches the tremors of laughter underlying the airy tilt of his voice.
He throws the chewed remains of his pencil at the curving tilt of Suguru’s cheshire smirk as Shoko snickers under her breath, and any rebuttals from that point on are lost in the ensuing scuffle.
