    Summary

    A spark.

That’s what Emmrich had decided to call it, when he had discovered that there was something decidedly different in the skeletal android’s AI programming. M4N-FR3D was a prototype model that had been shelved years ago, after a very nasty falling out with a former colleague led him to abandon the project. He didn’t think he would ever dig it out of storage, and yet there he was, in his engineering classroom and lab, tinkering with the refurbished android like he was a young and hopeful man again.

News of Johanna Hezenkoss’ disappearance had reignited his interest in the pet project they had once shared. ‘Manfred,’ Emmrich had jokingly referred to the android, and Johanna had only rolled her eyes and told him to stop being so childish and fanciful. The first of many a disagreement over the entire project.

    Or maybe not a spark… maybe… a wisp?

    Summary

    “Thank you.”
He barely caught it — the soft breath of thanks — yet it was still a struggle not to flinch away; to apologise for the situation they found themselves in. “Get some rest,” Lucanis murmured into Emmrich’s nape instead. Weak yet even breaths followed as Emmrich seemed to doze off, the worrying rattle from earlier thankfully absent. He didn’t look forward to the awkward conversation they would have to have, but if Emmrich was still alive to have it, Lucanis would consider it a fair exchange.

When a Venatori ambush leaves Lucanis and a wounded Emmrich trapped in the High Anderfels, they're forced to navigate the treacherous landscape in hopes of reuniting with their lost companions and the Grey Warden patrol they were meant to find. But the mountains hold more than storms and uncanny predators, and Lucanis must wrestle with a far more dangerous conflict: his fiercely guarded feelings for the very necromancer he has sworn to protect.

    Summary

Emmrich turned his face, so he could look at him. “You keep this side of you well hidden.”

Dorian smirked. “The nurturing side? It doesn’t come naturally. But someone would do this for me once, and when the days of panic and fear seemed endless…you’d go mad without it. Having some kind of relief.”

He saw the curiosity on Emmrich’s face, and the caution. But it wasn’t an old wound, it was a nice memory, and he offered, “He was in the Inquisition, a Ben-Hassrath. That spy training of his meant he was good at getting in your head – and shutting it off when needed.”

“And who does that for you now?”

    Summary

Dorian had forgotten about some of those mishaps. Or how satisfying it was to annoy Emmrich with his antics. “I was trying to get your attention, Professor. Could you blame me?”

“Ah, yes,” Emmrich said with a long-suffering bite, “how could I neglect to mention your relentless campaign to compromise my honor as a teacher and a gentleman.”

Such a flowery way to put it. Emmrich almost made it sound poetic, all of the times Dorian had tried to get the Professor to throw him over his knee and spank him. Ambushed him, half-dressed, screaming to be taken advantage of.
