Summary
Apollo likes the familiar. After the roller coaster of the UR-1 retrial following Clay's death, a regular routine is so comfortable that it's practically addictive. It's hard to stave off the lingering sense of stagnation that begins to settle in as the months go on, though, and he supposes it had to be only a matter of time before old wounds opened again.
The attempted murder of a well-known editor has Apollo defending the author who is the only suspect, but the seemingly cut and dry case is not as simple as it seems. Meanwhile, his mind is racing, Trucy is hard at work preparing plans for her father's birthday party, Athena is ever the over-attentive psycho-analyst, and he and Klavier keep managing to wind up in close quarters.
It's hard to work a case with his emotions getting in the way, and even harder when everyone around him seems to be revisiting painful memories at the same time.

Summary
Apollo wonders how anyone can put up with another person for thirty years, let alone to the point where going without a good morning kiss from them is as devastating as being deprived of oxygen. He’s always wondered – sometimes curiously, sometimes longingly – what it would be like to be in love, to hold someone’s hand like a lifeline, like his hands were made for it, like the atoms that created the world were waiting, holding their breath, for this beautiful moment of completion. Sure, he’s had crushes before, but they fizzled and faded before there was ever a chance of reciprocation, and then his life had been all law school and transitioning and flitting between apartments and friends and jobs just to stay afloat, how could he have ever made time for love?
Apollo Justice is investigating a crime scene, for Holy Mother's sake. This is not the time to fall in love with the prosecutor who holds his hand when he's scared of heights.

Summary
The first time Klavier finds himself daydreaming about proposing to Apollo Justice is almost inappropriately early in their acquaintance; not even three months after they’d met outside of People Park.
He leans back in his chair, twirls his pen between his fingers, and thinks:
They’re holding hands and looking at the flowers as they walk beside a pond filled with lilypads and jewel-toned koi fish, and Apollo is strong and steady beside him. An anchor, a rock. When they reach a curve in the path, a viewing point perfect for photos and admiring the rippling water, Klavier untwines his fingers from Apollo’s and drops to one knee, drawing the blue box out of his pocket as he goes.
When Apollo says yes, it’s with big, surprised brown eyes and a gentle, half-smile.
