Wei Ying and Lan Zhan were arranged to be married due to political alliance. The Lan sect does not treat Wei Ying properly. Lan Zhan is just being an obedient Lan and does not do anything. So Wei Ying leaves the Lan sect and makes a life for himself away from them leaving Lan Zhan to regret.

But the royal family was not very accepting of Wei Ying and he was banished to Yilling after the wedding night. Wei Ying decided to live his life to the fullest by utilising his genius brain surprising everyone around him.

Just one complication… Lan Wangji won’t let him go alone.
An answer to: “What if Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji had the chance to do it all over again, knowing what they know? How far would they go?”
This story is a low-conflict multicanon time-travel fixit that serves as a 50k denouement for The Untamed.

Summary
Anger, resentment, fury, so much fury raged within him as his tears fell onto the pillow below him, creating two large wet spots.
He felt Lan Xichen’s hand slowly raking through his hair, speaking soft sounds as if trying to console a small child.
It felt sickening, condescending.
Lan Wangji didn’t know how the sects could’ve done it, how they could have entered into the Burial Mounds and done what they did when they saw the inhabitants. When the only army they saw were the elderly and women, likely wielding gardening supplies as weapons.
It wasn’t even a fair fight.

The dragon will not go away, and Lan Wangji does not know what to do about it. It is clearly very affectionate of him, although he is unsure as to why him, specifically. Lan Wangji, although he is loath to admit it, might also like the dragon. It is sweet, and it is attentive, and it is lithe, and it is energetic. He tries not to think about how it reminds him of Wei Ying, who they haven’t seen in months, who everyone assures him must be fine, who he cannot search for because they are in the middle of a war—
Or: Wei Ying is a dragon. He goes to where it matters most.
