She drew one last deep breath, taking the risk of tightening her grip on the other woman ever so slightly. Regina gave a soft hum at the motion, curling her fingers around Emma’s hand on her chest.
Emma felt her heart stutter. It was just a reflex, she reasoned. Muscle memory, of course. Regina was reacting to the feeling of being held, much like Emma had when she’d first awoken. Nothing more than that. Certainly nothing to do with the fact that it was Emma holding her.
“Emma.”
She froze in place.
Her name had come out quiet, just a mumble, but Regina had said it all the same. In her sleep. Barely audible. Reverent, like it was something to be savored, as she wrapped her fingers around Emma’s own.
