He felt crushed when Lumine told him that she had a boyfriend.
He told her he was happy while somehow keeping onto the hope that she'd secretly look his way the same she looks at 'him'.
However his one-sided feelings towards Lumine became the least of his worries when she fainted by the time she returned to Liyue after one of her visits in Dragonspine.
And wasn't that where she's mostly been with her boyfriend?
"Hey... Where did you learn to fake a smile like that?"
Alternatively: Lumine traps herself in the delusion that she's fine with being in an abusive relationship while Xiao struggles to pull her out of that delusion not knowing what to do with his own unrequited feelings for her.
