    On the far end of the bed, the one nearest the window, Danny rolls over to face Steve. “Told you. I’m not sleeping on the couch.”

    Or: Steve is hurting, Danny is immutably present, and philosophy can wait until later.

    So for a while that’s the routine the house settles into: Junior has his own room, Steve and Danny share one, and Eddie has all the luxury a dog could ever wish for in having the couch all to himself.

    And then Junior moves out.

    Or: Obviously Danny is very happy when there’s suddenly nothing forcing Steve and him to sleep in the same bed anymore. So happy! Just so, so happy.
