Summary
Verso and Gustave meet on a train, but never exchange names when Verso misunderstands their conversation and leaves abruptly.
He regrets it almost immediately, and does everything in his power to find the man that he started falling for after one conversation.

Summary
There are two reasons why he puts up with stuck-up nobles sneering at him condescendingly for mixing up the forks at dinner, making arrogant comments about his missing arm, and thinking him stupid for being a laborer.
First and foremost: his support for his sister on her way: the first working-class councilwoman in the city of Lumière. For her and Maëlle, he would pluck the moon and all the stars from the sky. As long as Emma needed him, he would go to any soirée and make an ass out of himself; antiquated traditions be damned.
Secondly, though?
To stare yearningly at Verso Dessendre.Due to her role as councilwoman, Emma gets invited to a lot of high society events. Gustave surely only accompanies her because societal expectations require it. And not at all because he is in love with a certain Verso Dessendre.
Now he's dressed up as a forest spirit and feeling uncomfortable at a masquerade ball. So much for masks hiding differences, right?
