“Insane, right? The man’s a cipher.” Connor put the phone, which was psychically shrieking at him, face-down on the rock. He still felt an intense sense of indignation and embarrassment when he thought back to his attempted seduction of Jacob in the trailer, though he was, as licensed hypnotherapist Colin Tipping advised in his best-selling book, trying to forgive himself.
“I mean.” Hudson caught his wrist. His hand started travelling up Connor’s forearm, fingers pinching and tugging at the arm-hairs. “Is it really so mysterious?”

Hudson appeared at Jacob’s other shoulder. “It’s your most Shane-like quality.” They were like needy little kittens, the way they ran off to play but always came back mewing for affection.
Jacob rolled his eyes. “At least I have a Shane-like quality. That makes one of us.” He gave Hudson’s neck a slow squeeze, enjoying how the muscles shifted under his hand; how Hudson dropped his head a fraction, to let him do it; and how Connor looked at them while Jacob did it, chin tipped up, his eyes alight.

“Hm,” says Sam. “I think we play it safe, and go with red maple.”
Yeah, Eric is certain: Jacob and Sam aren’t fucking. But they’d like to be.

They’re getting into a rhythm now, though, and Shane can see it. He can see this team winning the Cup this year. He tries not to get ahead of himself, tries to stay focused and go game by game, reminds himself that building up a team takes time and several seasons, but god. He wants this legacy: for himself, for Ottawa, for Ilya. For both of them and everyone else.
Which is why, goddamnit, now is not the time to crash out over fantasies of Ilya working his whole hand down to the wrist into Shane’s ass and fucking him on his fist. And yet.
